Blog - Member Spotlight: Karan Monkhouse
As a Coach, there is no better feeling than to see one of your members progress and transform in front of you. It has been very rewarding to see how far Karan has come in the last 6 months since joining our team. She literally started as an absolute beginner at She FITNESS, with no aerobic capacity and very limited core or upper body strength. We initially scaled and modified the workouts to focus on the basics and teaching her how to move and exercise safely and effectively with correct technique. As each month has passed by, she gotten stronger, firmer and fitter as a result of her drive and focus and she is a great example of what determination and consistency can achieve when applied to our training sessions and good nutrition.
On top of losing 4kgs in weight, melting away centimetres around her waistline, and toning up her legs and arms; she now has the energy and fitness to no longer be out of breath when walking up stairs or completing her home renovation projects.
Keep up the great work Karan!
1. How long have you been training with She FITNESS?
I started mid January, but only get to sessions two weeks out of every four due to work. And I was pathetic when I started -couldn’t do anything – no sit ups, planks, pushups, squats – nothing!
2. What do you do for a living?
TV and Film Production, currently Packed To The Rafters.
3. What are your hobbies or interests?
Films, books, cooking and my dreadful DIY projects that always end up with me calling in tradies to fix what I’ve done.
4. What is your favourite thing to do on the weekend?
Beach, no matter what the weather. I live in Bundeena so there are hidden beaches, rock pools, amazing cliff walks, kayaking (badly, I fall out a lot) and swimming from Sept thru May before water gets just too cold.
5. What are your goals for 2010?
To get to as many sessions as I can so I continue to improve, and to get more kickboxing practice. I like the kickboxing.
6. What do you like most about training with She FITNESS?
It’s a very friendly environment, non-judgmental, and the only pressure is gentle yet firm pushing to achieve personal best.
7. What is your favourite sport or outdoor activity?
Sport??!! Haven’t done anything formal or organised for many years, but see question #4 for outdoor activity.
8. What results have you seen or felt since training with She FITNESS?
After no formal exercise for 25 years I was horribly unfit. Actually, I didn’t think I’d get past the first session, but already I feel fitter, have more energy, and have discovered I actually like this type of training. It’s different every session, not boring at all and I can see huge results in my fitness, strength and wobbly thighs. And it’s helped me stick to the more sensible diet I started at the same time, so I have lost around 4kg, and a lot of centimetres from my waistline – a full notch tighter on favourite belt.
9. Any advice for future She FITTERS?
Even when you don’t feel like going to a session, just turn up. At the end of the hour you’ll feel great, and so pleased with yourself that you’ll be smiling for the rest of the day.
